Ms. Rochová is also Head of the Studio of Fashion and Footwear Design at the highly reputable Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague.
Ms. Rochová creates free and individual work that expresses an artistic form. She has been involved with fashion design since the early 1970s and has designed her own collections under the LR label since the 1980s. In 1999, Ms. Rochová founded Studio LR and, from 2005 to 2010, ran Studio LR-Gallery, which focused on developing young designers. Ms. Rochová has many times been nominated for a number of prestigious awards. Most recently, she became the Winner of the Fashion Designer and Grand Designer of the Year prize at the 2015 Czech Grand Design Awards, which is the most renowned fashion design award in the Czech Republic.
Liběna’s expertise and abilities have brought her to designing costumes for theatre and film, artistic clothing objects, evening gowns for performing artists, robes for private customers, ready-to-wear and unique model collections. Each year she presents her fashion designs at her solo artist shows both in Czech Republic as well as internationally, including including her limited seasonal collections twice a year. Liběna also designs glass jewelry and objects d’art, paper images and fashion art objects. She successfully introduced her work worldwide with many presentations, shows and exhibitions in destinations like Paris, Lyon, Vienna, Düsseldorf, New York, Los Angeles, Bombay, Delhi and many other destinations.
Since 2008, Liběna Rochová has headed the Studio of Fashion and Footwear Design at the highly reputable Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. Thanks to her excellent pedagogical and professional skills, her students and graduates have achieved many awards and gained prestigious positions in the field. In 2011, she earned tenure and in 2017, she was designated ‘Professor’, which currently makes her the only active teacher and studio leader holding this academic title in the country.
Liběna Rochová is one of the most influential women on the Czech fashion scene, if not the most influential. As the Head of the Clothing and Footwear Design Studio at the Prague Academy of Performing Arts, she has been educating the youngest Czech generations of fashion designers for many years
"An icon of Czech fashion. During her career, Liběna Rochová has achieved everything possible in the Czech fashion world. This first lady of Czech fashion is full of energy and pursues her passion so happily that her younger colleagues must envy her. Nevertheless, or precisely because of this, her designs dress well-known Czech personalities for the most prestigious events. She also devotes herself very intensively to charitable projects and it certainly does not look like she is going to slow down."
“Her visions, their hopes. Libéna Rochova, who, unlike other domestic designers, is unique and does not engage in understatement, often described as commerce, and moves on the border of art in her work. It would certainly be enough to present one’s own collections to arouse interest at home and overseas, yet, nine years ago, Ms. Rochova accepted an offer to teach at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design (UMPRUM) in Prague and pass on her views on fashion, her work and her social role.”
"It would be difficult to find anyone in the Czech Republic who would have influenced the local fashion world as dramatically and deeply as Liběna Rochová. On the one hand, there is her own, strict authorial and non-ready-made work and, at the same time, her successful pedagogical activity.
Under her leadership, a number of important young designers have emerged from the studio at the Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, who were able to apply themselves not only in the Czech Republic, but also succeeded on the international level. Vision, determination, meticulousness, dissatisfaction, perseverance and an innate inability to make average compromises are the keys to her success. But it wouldn't be enough for Libena if she couldn't divide her energy and creativity, preserve it and maybe even multiply it for her personal projects outside of school.”
"Her name is most often mentioned in the media with the phrase, "the First Lady of Czech Fashion". She regularly presents Czech fashion abroad. She is Head of the Clothing and Footwear Design Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. She pushes her students forward "to have an open mind, humility, decency and diligence", as she says. She fights for this. She loves fashion. Individuality, ideas, courage, creativity.”
